4 Ways to Take the Spa Experience Home

Thursday, January 25, 2018 - 16:30

A trip to the spa is the perfect way to relax your body and mind, but you can’t exactly make daily appointments for facials and massages. The longer you go between visits, however, the more likely it is that stress will build up in your life once again. This can lead to stiff muscles, overall lethargy, and a negative mindset—not good!

Fortunately, there are a few ways to get all the relaxation of a soothing spa experience in the comfort of your very own home. Here are 4 things you can do to recreate those relaxing vibes without having to leave the house between spa visits.

1. Wear a Comfy Robe
What we wear has a huge impact on our state of mind. If you’re lounging around the house in an old, tattered bathrobe, it’s going to be hard for you to enter that calm, uplifted mentality. Putting on a robe at the spa feels like slipping into a second skin and your robe at home should make you feel that way, too!

If it’s time to replace your robe, try to invest in something high-quality that will last a long time. You might even want to have a second robe that’s just for when you need to unwind if you really want to make the experience special.

2. Aromatherapy
One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of a spa is the smell. Each spa might smell different, but every one tries to cultivate a relaxing, soothing scent that makes each client feel calm and collected.

You can make your home smell like a spa with a simple room spray. Opt for something that smells clean and natural as opposed to perfumey as this will help put you in “spa mode” without accidentally giving you a headache.

3. Candlelight
There’s nothing quite as relaxing as lounging in a dim room lit by flickering candlelight. Turn off your computer, TV, or phone screens and give your eyes a break by spending some time sans electricity with a softly scented candle.

Try to do something like reading a book or listening to music that will help you unwind. Sometimes all it takes is a short break from screen-based technology to help reframe your mindset.

4. Self-Massage
If you can’t make it out for a massage appointment, the next best thing is to give yourself a massage at home. Use a foam roller to roll out stiff muscles and ease any tension you might have in hard-to-reach areas like your back. If you have massage oil or lotion, you can rub it firmly into your legs and arms to help loosen your muscles there as well.
